CARP PROJECT
The Carp Project is scheduled to begin on September 9 with three consecutive days of electrofishing along the perimeter of each lake. Operations will start early each morning and continue for approximately six hours. During this time, we kindly request that all watercraft and recreational activities remain off the lake waters. Observers are welcome to watch from the shoreline if interested.
Electrofishing delivers a brief electrical charge that temporarily stuns all fish in the immediate area. Only carp will be collected and removed; all other fish will remain in the water unharmed.
For safety and operational efficiency, signs will be posted and access from the channel at Pickerel Lake will be temporarily closed. The electrofishing boat will launch from Sharp’s Landing.
Thirty carp will be retained for analysis to determine age and other relevant biological data. Carp Solutions will prepare a detailed report based on these specimens, along with additional key findings. This report will include recommendations on whether further carp removal is necessary and, if so, how frequent efforts should be conducted to maintain a manageable population.
Funding for the Carp Project currently stands at $10,825 of the $13,000 goal. Contributions to help complete the project are greatly appreciated and can be sent to:

Welcome to the Lakes
Emerald and Sylvan lakes are part of a chain of lakes located in Newaygo, Michigan. These two private lakes are among the cleanest, most clear lakes in the state and for those who live or visit here...they are certainly paradise on earth.
